A few weeks ago, I was covering the Solar Bears game and one of our players was slammed up hard against the glass. The impact was so hard that it rattled the entire board and glass structure at the end of the rink. As I was standing on the other side of the glass I could see the flash of agony on his face. I knew he was going to feel that one after the game!  If you have ever been to a hockey game, you know how hard these hits can be and though you think those hockey players shake those hits off, it is actually the reason why they have a team Chiropractor. Those hits cannot be ignored and though there may be no external signs of injury, believe me when I tell you that these guys need to be treated after these impacts. This is similar to those involved in auto accidents with little to no damage to the vehicle.

It is often that I help people that were hurt in an accident when there was no damage to the car.

You are in your car, you get hit from behind and there is no damage to your car - that must mean you did not get injured, right?!

You might think that if there is no damage to your car, there is no damage to you and that just is not true.

Imagine this: you are sitting in a chair and someone two times your size is not watching where they are going and walks right into you. If you are motionless and someone double your mass walking at full speed (3 MPH), wouldn’t you say that you could be injured? This is not something that people are lining up to have happen to them and it is because it HURTS.

What about if you were sitting out in a parking lot and a car ran into you at 3 MPH? No longer are we talking about double the mass but you vs. 3,000+ pounds. The odds of injury are likely.

A human body cannot be compared to a 3,000 pound vehicle made up of metal, plastic and steel. It is designed, in many ways, to be hit from behind, a human is not. A car does have a safety system designed to protect you when your car begins taking damage but when your car takes damage, it is almost as if you put bubble wrap between you and the car hitting you.

Don’t let the myth of no damage to your car, no damage to you, stand in the way of you getting the treatment that you need. Schedule an appointment online or give our office a call today to be evaluated.
